Vilnius, Lithuania - Guide

General Information  /   Arriving & Getting Around

Vilnius - Arriving

Though it’s the largest airport in Lithuania, Vilnius Airport will, to most international travellers, seem compact and easy to negotiate upon arrival. It is located just over 4 kilometres south of Vilnius itself. British Airways, airBaltic and flyLAL fly to it from the UK.

Taxicabs and buses are available near the baggage claim in the arrivals area at Vilnius Airport. A taxi into town should cost about 20Litas. (€5.80) It isn’t uncommon, however, for unlicensed taxi drivers to charge up to 50Litas, so make sure you’ve established the fare before you get in the cab. The bus stop is just to the left as you exit the arrivals hall. Bus no. 2 goes from the airport to Lukiškių Square in downtown Vilnius as late as 23:34 on weekdays and 23:20 on weekends. A single bus ticket costs 1.40 Litas.

Ryanair also flies to Kauna airport, but it is more than 80 kilometres north west of Vilnius and therefore not that accessible. None the less you can catch Bus 29 to Kaunas bus or train station and carry on to Vilnius from there.

Vilnius - Getting Around

There is a tram and bus network, but the Old Town area of Vilnius is not that big and can be easily enjoyed on foot.
